What is Food Safety & why does it matter?
At PaleoPet Pure Raw Food for Pets we have a strict Food Safety system in place to assure you of a safe product that meets your quality expectations. Food safety refers to practices that are observed during the handling, processing, and distribution of food to ensure that it is safe and remains uncontaminated from a variety of pathogens present in the environment. These practices involve set processes and practices that adhere to International Food safety regulations.
There is monitoring on a supplier level (raw material), an environmental level (the premises the food is manufactured in) and on a product level. This ensures that all the way from the farm right through to the finished product that is delivered to you, every ingredient is strictly managed, handled, tracked and controlled.
When it comes to raw food, this is especially important … because you are feeding it raw and cannot rely on heat processing to kill off any potential contaminants. In order to meet Food Safety and DAFF (Dept of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries – recently changed to DALRRD) regulations, raw pet food cannot contain any of certain bacteria and limited numbers of others. Only a strict Food Safety and HACCP management system will ensure that this is the case and that these contaminants are regularly monitored and quantified.
At PaleoPet Pure, we have an annual audit conducted by Intertek, this is an international organisation specialising in quality assurance certification. This means that the audits conducted are stringent and conform to international standards.
This is our way of reassuring you and your pets that the food you are feeding is not only balanced and complete, but is also safe and of the highest quality. So when we say our poultry is free-range, that means it is certified free range, when we say our food is human food grade, that means it is certified human food grade, when we say an ingredient is organic, that means certified organic!
